What We Ate (Week ending July 25)
It says something about the week when I don’t post a single recipe. It was a good week in food, I just didn’t get a chance to write anything up. Nothing was original anyway.
I had intend to do a variety of posts in the past three weeks for Blog Post BINGO. I have not had time to do so. I didn’t realize how much my instinct to post regularly depends on comments. I have a number of general cooking discussion posts that I have considered posting, but talking to myself isn’t very fun. I may keep this blog a basic recipe and updates blog, simply because I am mainly keeping it for myself and my own cooking development. If you are reading this blog, I’d love to know what you’d like to read.
My favorite dish this week was the chicken and rice that my husband made. Oh, yum. It was tasty. He created it without a recipe, so I unfortunately can’t recreate it. Someday I may be able to create meals like that. That’s a goal.

What We Ate (Week ending July 18)
I forgot to post my weekly report on Sunday, so here it is. Another good week. I loved the cucumber soup the best, and I’m going to make it again this week. I’m starting to not feel very creative in trying new menus; I feel I just keep repeating the old favorites. So be it. At least I’m cooking!

What We Ate (Week ending July 11)
This week wasn’t creative at all. I just cooked familiar foods. But that was okay, because we had lots of food, we ate as a family every evening, I prepared dinner in less than an hour every night, and my son ate the same dinner as the rest of us every single night. That was really nice! We’ve already eaten all the leftovers.
My favorite was, of course, the dessert-like Sunday dinner. Monday’s chicken pot pie stew was okay, but the pastry shells were not nearly as good as the buttermilk biscuits are (I didn’t have any buttermilk this week). The sausage balls were not very good because I bought an inexpensive sausage. I learned my lesson: buy good sausage! The cheaper option was very gross. Also, I’ve decided that I really don’t like spaghetti. Maybe I just need to find a better recipe for tasty spaghetti.
Sunday
Waffles (with caramelized bananas and chocolate sauce)
Monday
Chicken pot pie stew with pastry shells
Tuesday
Mozzarella-stuffed sausage balls with tomato pesto sauce; baked vegetables; mashed potatoes
Wednesday
pork chops with parsley butter, herb potatoes, broccoli (from the freezer)
Thursday
Pasta and meat sauce (aka spaghetti)
Friday
[leftovers] (and chocolate chip cookies)
Saturday
macaroni and cheddar
Yep, Still the Best
Just a quick note to say that yes, Western Family’s recipe (circa 1999) still bakes the absolute best chocolate chip cookies in the world.
The dough is so tasty, they’re even good without many chocolate chips. But I’ve decided I like them best with a full bag of chocolate chips.
Blog Post BINGO “short” post. Details here.
What We Ate (Week ending July 4)
It was another tasty week. I am finding that I am becoming more confident in my cooking and better able to whip up a dinner in less than an hour.
My husband was in charge of the holiday barbequing and he enjoyed himself. We made so many ribs on day one that we just had the same thing on day two, reheated slightly.
My favorite meal was the tomato soup. But I also love to fall back on chicken piccata. The rice side dish worked really well with it.

What We Ate (Week Ending June 27)
It was a pretty good week. I really love the fajitas because the salsa is so tasty. The rub on the steak and chicken was a bit too spicy this time (my husband went a bit overboard with the cayenne pepper, I think) but it was still good. Friday’s salad was made with leftover chicken and I think it was a little off. Other than that, I don’t feel like there were any disasters. I feel more confident in my ability to create a meal!

Steak and Chicken Fajitas with Guacamole, Salsa Fresca, and sautéed shallots
Monday
Carrot and Ginger Soup and homemade bread (via breadmaker)
Tuesday

What We Ate (Week Ending June 20)
This week I started feeling the burn out of being creative every day. I went back to some old recipes, and my husband and I together whipped up some yummy meals. He has an amazing talent for taking what’s in the fridge and making a masterful creation, all without a recipe. I helped, but I can’t even begin to try to recreate a recipe for your sake.

What We Ate (Week Ending June 13)
It wasn’t a very original recipe-filled week; I had cooked so much food last week, we enjoyed leftovers a few times this week. We also ate with family one night and stopped a restaurant the next night. Overall, it was a tasty week, regardless of the fact nothing was challenging to make. It goes to show that we can have very yummy food.
What did you eat this week?

What We Ate (Week Ending June 6)
It was a pretty good week, cooking-wise. The only major cooking mistake was Friday’s pork, which I overcooked (although the sauce was delicious, because I browned the meat and then simmered it for a few moments, it became quite tough). Also, the fettuccine I made on Saturday (June 6) wasn’t the best: I heated the cheese too quickly so it separated. Even that was still tasty.
Can you tell which two evenings my husband was out of town?
Saturday (May 30)
Sunday
Monday
Chicken Pot Pie Stew and Buttermilk Biscuits
Tuesday
Cider-Braised Chicken; Braised Fennel; and Buttery Egg Noodles
Wednesday
My son had Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner with butternut squash mashed in it. He never knew!
Thursday
Waffles and fresh fruit
Friday
Pork Chops with Sautéed Apples; leftover potato and leek gratin (from freezer)
Saturday
Fettuccini Alfredo with Sugar Snap Peas
I’ve Been Cooking…
…I just haven’t been telling you about it! In fact, lately I’ve been making incredibly yummy quick breads: Zucchini Bread, Banana Bread, and Zucchini-Banana Bread. I’ve decided that I like Zucchini Bread much more than the plain banana variety.
Which of the two is your favorite?
If my tweak on the recipe tomorrow is good, I may share it with you.
